Editor’s Remarks:
The number of M&A deals in the US, from April to June 2016, split by industry. Reviewing future reports of trends in M&A activity from 2015 would suggest that 2016 was a year continuing to display 2015 levels of high activity, particularly in technology and pharmaceutical industries. However, it has taken till halfway through the year for that to come true. Technology and finance have lived up to the billing somewhat with companies recognising the reality of a digital, device-connected world coming upon them and major deals being announced almost weekly. However, pharmaceuticals and health services are still lagging behind, possibly due to the earlier warnings on the tax dodging and price setting practices. Regardless, 2016 will probably see another slowdown in activity if the US election proves to be as close as the Brexit referendum.
