Trader’s remarks: They story of Facebook has been fascinating so far. Created in a Harvard dorm room, it now has a market capitalisation of $315bn. The hype around Facebook’s mobile dominance is all the more interesting because just a few years ago investors had a negative view on its earnings for its seeming lack of a mobile strategy. In just four years Facebook has created a $13 billion mobile-advertising business. That is the revenue it generated from mobile ads in 2015. In the last quarter, as the chart demonstrates, Facebook reaped 80% of its ad revenue from smartphones and tablets. Facebook has not taken the foot off the pedal and has been investing heavily in new features such as live video and an enhanced Messenger. It looks like Facebook is still in the startup mindset of focussing on hyper growth.
