The number of people signing up for Facebook has slowed according to recently-published fourth quarterly results. Quarter-to-quarter, it was the slowest growth rate in the company’s history. Compared to the 3.8% increase in the third quarter of 2017, user growth was only 1.8% for the last three months. Compared to the same quarter last year, the growth rate slowed to 13%, a slight decrease from the 14% increase the year before. Although just one percentage point, such a difference for a company of its size represents a significant drop for the social media platform. This follows Facebook’s change of direction prioritising the health and happiness of its users over publishing viral content.
