Compared with other major emerging markets, India has a highly underdeveloped soft drinks market, with limited product categories and poor modern retail penetration. As the population continues to grow along with the improvements in product variety and distribution, there will be a significant increase in soft drink consumption. No wonder Pepsi and Coca-Cola, who are the biggest players in the market are spending record amounts of money on advertisements and branding to cement their position.
