Chart of the Day: US Jobs Smash Expectations

The US labour market created 292k jobs in December, a clear sign that economy remains resilient in spite of slowing global growth. This will be a huge relief after a brutal week dominated by unrest in Middle East and concerns around China. As seen on the chart the current unemployment rate of 5% is inline with the “natural” rate of unemployment indicating that the US economy is close to full employment and also justifying the rate hike in December last year.
