Editor’s Remarks:
Clinton has performed excellently in all of her previous debates but Trump’s raucous and careful planned television appearances made him the early favourite to succeed in the first presidential debate. Several polls also had Trump even with Hillary for the first time in quite some time. The debate, rivalling Super Bowls in terms of viewers, by being the most watched debate in TV history with over 100m viewers. However, at the end it seems The Market Mogul community were wrong. A snap poll by CNN/ORC suggests that Clinton won 62% to Trump’s 27%. The debate lived up to its billing as being one of the television highlights of the year, with personal attacks regarding Trump’s failure to release his tax returns and Clinton failing to defend her change of heart regarding TPP. Other debate highlights included:
“You’ve been fighting ISIS your entire adult life,” Mr Trump mocked Mrs Clinton
He said she did not have the temperament to be president
African Americans are living “in hell” in the US, he said, because life is so dangerous
In response to the police shootings of black men, Mr Trump said bringing back law and order is the answer
Mrs Clinton said she would introduce criminal justice reform because “unfortunately, race often determines too much”
