The World Bank has announced that it will help finance reconciliation projects after Islamic State’s defeat.
Editor’s Remarks: The support, which will run in parallel to other organisations’ initiatives, is aimed at ensuring the sustainability of reconstruction in Iraq, after years of ravaging conflict in the Levantine region. Financial support from the World Bank already totals some $3.4bn designed to help Iraq bear the cost of low oil prices and conflict on its economy. It remains to be seen whether the money produces results as Iraqi political divisions remain since the 2003 US-led invasion despite reconstruction efforts in its aftermath.
