Ever since the military coup in July, the unemployment rate in Turkey has been climbing. By August the unemployment rate hit 11.3%, the highest since January 2015. The largest demographic in the unemployment figures are those aged 15 and over, who number 3.49 million, up from 435,000. To have so many unemployed in the youngest portion of the population is dangerous. Despite Erdogan’s crackdown, Turkey should still witness further instability in the coming years as the youth become more vocal.
