Tesla has never made an annual profit in its fifteen years on Earth, but CEO Elon Musk reckons that the carmaker will turn a profit in Q3 and Q4 this year if it is able to ramp up production of its Model 3 vehicles. Last year, Tesla ratcheted up a substantially higher revenue, which – at just shy of $12bn – vastly trumped the $7bn turned over in 2016 as Model 3 pre-orders came in. Elon Musk announced recently that Tesla recently erected a new production facility in just three weeks that will help it reach its target of making 5,000 cars a week by month’s end. However, Musk has also had to shed 9% of his workforce in order to cope with Tesla’s mounting financial pressures; despite this measure, most analysts expect that the Tesla CEO will soon return to the markets with his cap in hand.
