Trader’s remarks: Alphabet, the holding company that houses Google has been investing heavily in “other business segments” as it seeks to diversify away from its core search platform. Investments in these businesses which houses divisions like driverless cars, life sciences and Google Fiber has been increasing wich each passing quarter. Nest is one of the chief revenue drivers for Alphabet’s “other bets” segment at the moment. Nest, led by Tony Fadell, makes smart thermostats and smoke/carbon dioxide detectors. Alphabet aims to continue spending on bets that show promise and cut down on non-core initiatives.
