Numbers in on Lingering WannaCry Attack

The recent ‘WannaCry’ cyber attack has hit 200,000 victims in over 150 countries, according to Europol, with potentially more to come.

Editor’s Remarks: The ransomware virus swarmed computers in organisations from car factories to hospitals and schools on Friday, causing vast losses in business, before its spread was more or less halted by a 22-year-old British tech blogger who ‘sinkholed’ it. But companies and cyber security services the world over will be on alert today as certain types of systems remain vulnerable to the worm, which, to make matters worse, may present itself in new forms. Either way, the coming weeks will see the cyber security world deal with a watershed moment in its development, with demand for related services likely to skyrocket as businesses rush to patch up their exposures.
