Netflix’s Original Content at the Emmy Awards

 1 min read /

Digital Streaming has been gaining market share from traditional broadcast television, and now it is receiving plaudits for its original content. “The Handmaid’s Tale”, which was produced by video-on-demand platform Hulu, scooped the first ever Outstanding Drama Series award for a streaming TV series and streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon and Hulu racked up a total of 120 nominations. While Netflix did not win a major award to match with past successes “House of Cards” or “Orange is the New Black”, it did scoop a total of 20 awards, second only to traditional broadcaster HBO, and almost doubled the nominations received. An increasing number of consumers are “cutting the cord” of traditional broadcasters and this year’s awards will only encourage more entrants, such as Apple, into the original content digital streaming market.
