A top EU politician will argue for allowing faster rates of political integration among some member states.
Editor’s Remarks: The European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker will propose a set of options to hold the EU together as Britain’s upcoming withdrawal sets the stage for a possible further unravelling of the union. Juncker has indicated he will push for a “multi-speed Europe” in which federalist-leaning members can integrate faster than those facing Eurosceptic upheavals. His plan could backfire, though, if poorer eastern states which have raised objections, like Hungary and Poland, end up alienated by an ‘ever-closer union’ that could leave them behind.
