America Wins: Guns Per Capita Across the World

 1 min read /

guns per capita

Unsurprisingly, the US is the number one country in the world when it comes to guns per capita, with an estimated 101 guns for every 100 American citizens. This statistic underlines just why the problem of gun crime in the US is on a scale that is otherwise unprecedented among other developed western economies. In fact, gun deaths are 25 times more likely in the US than in a collection of 22 other well-off nations. Significantly behind the US is Serbia with approximately 58 guns per 100 Serbians. In third and fifth place, respectively, are Yemen and Saudi Arabia, both of which are presently locked in a years-long conflict.

The regulation of the gun was loose until 1945, and gun crime was frequently occurring. GHQ's Douglas MacArthur has transformed such an environment. In Japan lost in World War II, he issued an order to confiscate all guns. With this measure and subsequent restrictions on regulations, now almost no gun crime has occurred. While Japan, who lost the war, enjoyed safety, the winner of America was scared of guns. It is ironic of history.
