Following the Trump administration’s decision to slap tariffs on EU-produced steel, the bloc has tabled plans to impose tariffs on a number of American products, including whisky, denim and peanut butter. Although the Canadians are the biggest importers of US peanut butter, the EU accounts for 19.6% of all American peanut butter exports. UK trade secretary Liam Fox did not back the Eu’s decision to impose retaliatory tariffs, which highlights the UK’s uneasy position as Brexit looms and the special relationship becomes more important than ever.
