Restaurant Brands International, which owns Burger King and Tim Hortons, has reported expectation-beating performance for the fourth quarter of last year. The 2014 merger between Burger King and Tim Hortons, which formed the Canadian multinational, seems to have marked a turnaround for the burger chain: capping off 2016’s figures for revenues, the numbers suggest that the McDonald’s competitor is seeing a lasting uptick after a tough period saw revenues more than halve from $2.54bn in 2009 to $1.06bn five years later. What’s more, Burger King appears to be pulling more of the weight, as it saw comparable sales topping estimates whilst the Restaurant Brands International’s total revenue growth fell a touch short of forecasts.
