Retracting from his previous position, President Vladimir Putin said that “patriotically minded” private Russian citizens might have been involved in helping Trump’s election campaign.
Editor’s Remarks: Before the days of “covfefe”, one of Trump’s most memorable moments was when he pronounced “Russia is… a ruse” at a White House press conference. The president did not really elaborate on the statement, but whatever he might have meant seems to be contradicted by Putin’s latest comments. The Russian leader, however, did continue to reject the notion that the Kremlin was in any way involved in hacking the Democratic National Committee and stuck to his argument that anti-Russian sentiment is simply the result of disgruntled Democrats. Putin’s latest comments reflect what he said earlier this week about hacking: “It makes no sense for us to do such things. What for?”. The line between sincerity and sarcasm is often a fine one.
