The US weight-loss company Weight Watchers saw its shares rise almost 20% after its spokesperson, Oprah, announced she lost 40 pounds on the programme.
Editor’s Remarks: The value of a spokesperson or a human figurehead is still there. The face of Weight Watchers is a billionaire powerhouse that vast swathes of the US population and the stock market listen to. Weight Watchers will be sure to capitalise on her weight loss as much as possible to boost revenues. The firm had seen almost 40% of its value disappear over last year but Oprah seems to be reversing that trend. The face of a consumer driven company is not going anywhere anytime soon.
